Layla’s story began as a fearful dog who’d been in a shelter in San Antonio. Her life had to have been so scary that introducing anything new and different to her was a challenge; unless you were a child that is.
Every dog has their favorites. In Layla’s case, it’s children. She trusts them and she loves them because it wasn’t a child who made her afraid to trust.
It’s been over a year since Layla was first rescued by not only Addicus but her amazing foster family and the strides that have been made in her character and story are immeasurable.
At 4 years and only 35 pounds, Layla is still very much slow to warm to new people, but once she knows you and trusts you, you have her heart. This girl loves to cozy up on a couch beside you or to sit alongside while you drink coffee at your local cafe. She has fantastic recall and she enjoys playing with toys and fetching balls. Layla can (and will) jump fences so we ask that an applicant for Layla have a large piece of property that she can run and explore on. She will return to you on command but she doesn’t like to be fenced in.
Layla would be an amazing “only” dog for a family. She could pair with a confident dog who has a strong sense of self. She does well on a leash and is 100% housetrained. An older person or couple whose grandchildren visit would be a great fit where Layla can have peace and quiet in between visits while still getting her kid fix.
We seek a patient home for Layla where she can continue to grow and thrive in her new normal life of being loved.
This scruffy girl is available for adoption in TX only.
