Some dogs make an entrance by charging into the room. Poco prefers to announce himself with a bark so unexpectedly deep that you’ll find yourself looking around for the neighbor’s big Labrador. The first time his foster heard it, they were convinced it couldn’t possibly be coming from the adorable little lowrider with white socks standing in front of them. Then his tail starts wagging, and before long he’s inviting his favorite people to one more game of chase.
At just a year old, this Dachshund and Chihuahua for adoption is equal parts playful and thoughtful. Poco loves to run, play, and entertain himself, but he’s also wonderfully independent when it’s time to relax. New faces can make him pause for a moment, and that’s part of what makes earning his trust so rewarding. Every day he’s learning that hands bring ear scratches, belly rubs, and dinner instead of anything scary, and watching that realization click is something special. He’s also beginning to figure out this whole leash-walking thing, taking each little success in stride. He’d enjoy sharing life with another small dog, but he’s equally content keeping himself busy if he’s your one-and-only. A homebody with a little patience and a predictable routine would be an especially great match for this rescue dog for adoption.

Please fill out an adoption application and be sure to completely fill in all fields, as our volunteer adoption coordinators will only follow up on completed applications.
Our coordinators will follow up on all the vet and personal references that you provide and then reach out to you to schedule an interview. It may take a few days as we are 100% volunteer based and our wonderful coordinators also have jobs and families. Please be patient and know that we will be in touch!
Our interviews are typically around 30 minutes in length. We will talk about your home, yard, current and past pets, kids, your schedule and what kind of dog you are looking for. If we feel the dog you applied for is not a good fit, we will suggest a different dog for you to consider.
