Mackey (McDermott)

9 Month Old Male
30 lbs

Read my story!

McDermott is the puppy who sees an open car door and assumes an adventure must be happening—and he intends to be included. He’s energetic, playful, and happiest right beside his people for a cuddle, but lately his growing confidence has him venturing off to investigate the world on his own, too.

This mixed-breed puppy for adoption is learning quickly. McDermott now goes into his crate when asked and settles quietly, a big improvement from his early days. He’s still working on sitting and waiting politely for meals, although his enthusiasm for food occasionally gets ahead of his manners.

He enjoys other dogs, adores the cat in his foster home, ignores the goats, and is curious but respectful around the chickens. With his love of play and car rides, McDermott would be great for someone who wants a young dog to include in everyday adventures. He also settles on his own, making a working household very doable.

McDermott came into rescue after being hit by a car and receiving lifesaving emergency care. Now recovering beautifully, he’s far more interested in what comes next than what happened before.

If you’re ready to adopt a rescue dog who brings equal enthusiasm to exploring and cuddling, this rescue dog for adoption is ready to go places.

McDermott is available for adoption throughout Texas through Addicus’ Legacy Dog Rescue, and to approved adopters in CT, VT, NH, NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA, NC, OH, and TN via a trusted transport partner. With fosters across the region and an Austin-area hub, we place dogs rescued from Texas and Mexico with loving foster families throughout the country.

HOW TO APPLY

Please fill out an adoption application and be sure to completely fill in all fields, as our volunteer adoption coordinators will only follow up on completed applications.

Our coordinators will follow up on all the vet and personal references that you provide and then reach out to you to schedule an interview. It may take a few days as we are 100% volunteer based and our wonderful coordinators also have jobs and families. Please be patient and know that we will be in touch!

Our interviews are typically around 30 minutes in length. We will talk about your home, yard, current and past pets, kids, your schedule and what kind of dog you are looking for. If we feel the dog you applied for is not a good fit, we will suggest a different dog for you to consider.
