Dorothy has a morning ritual, and apparently personal space is not part of it. The moment she leaves her crate, she heads straight for her person, falls in behind, and then happily walks right between their legs—her own quirky way of starting the day together. She’s affectionate, playful, and delightfully convinced that mornings are better when everyone is properly reunited.
At two years old and about 40 pounds, Dorothy is an active Lab for adoption with a wonderful off-switch. She loves romping outside with the younger dogs in her foster home, then heads indoors when the fun is over and claims her favorite quiet spot under the dining table.
Those canine friendships are important to Dorothy. She’s most comfortable and confident with another dog in her daily life, so she’s looking for a home with a friendly resident dog who can be her playmate and companion.
Dorothy also settles comfortably when her people are away, making her a great fit for a normal working household. She even patiently waits in her crate to be leashed before coming out—a nice glimpse of the manners beneath all that playful enthusiasm.
If you’re hoping to adopt a rescue dog who can romp with your dog, greet you with her own hilarious morning routine, and then settle peacefully nearby, Dorothy is a rescue dog for adoption with a particularly charming combination of fun and affection.
Dorothy is available for adoption throughout Texas through Addicus’ Legacy Dog Rescue, and to approved adopters in CT, VT, NH, NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA, NC, OH, and TN via a trusted transport partner. With fosters across the region and an Austin-area hub, we place dogs rescued from Texas and Mexico with loving foster families throughout the country.

HOW TO APPLY
Please fill out an adoption application and be sure to completely fill in all fields, as our volunteer adoption coordinators will only follow up on completed applications.
Our coordinators will follow up on all the vet and personal references that you provide and then reach out to you to schedule an interview. It may take a few days as we are 100% volunteer based and our wonderful coordinators also have jobs and families. Please be patient and know that we will be in touch!
Our interviews are typically around 30 minutes in length. We will talk about your home, yard, current and past pets, kids, your schedule and what kind of dog you are looking for. If we feel the dog you applied for is not a good fit, we will suggest a different dog for you to consider.
